Verizon iPhone

With all the rumors circling around the supposedly in-production CDMA iPhone, it’s nearly certain that the iPhone will make it onto Verizon, either this year or next. I’m already picturing Apple’s ads for it- “The iPhone on Verizon, finally.” I see one potential problem though- CDMA doesn’t support data and calling like GSM does, but maybe they’ll figure it out. Also, a reason why people complain about AT&T is the high monthly price for the iPhone plan, but what they don’t realize is that Verizon is probably going to be even more expensive, seeing as it’s expensive even for regular smartphones.

Pregame Speculation

With the Apple event a mere 30 minutes away, I’m pretty excited to hear what’s going down. There’s already been “leaks” of the MacBook Air’s spec, but I’m hoping that Apple will surprise us and make something more interesting than a simple hardware update. Maybe make the MBA even thinner, or even cheaper? However I don’t think Apple will drop the price on the MBA, because with the supposed 11-inch screen, it’ll be encroaching on iPad territory.

Steve Jobs On 7-Inch Tablets And Android

I agree with him, as 7 inches is truly too small to be a worthy iPad competitor. Even on the iPad’s 10-inch screen I feel ever so slightly restricted, and having two different screen sizes for the iPads will make all the devs hang themselves. It’s already a chore to develop for three devices: iPad, iPhone 4, and older iPhones. It’ll be three devices once Apple puts the retina into the iPad 2. Going back to the topic, this basically confirms that Apple will not be making a smaller iPad soon.

Apple Event Tomorrow

Rumors have been surrounding this event ever since Apple announced it, and there’s good reason for it- it’s the first Mac-related event Apple’s had in a very long time. The lion on the invitation implies that the next version of OS X will be called OS X Lion. Name aside, I’m willing to bet that it will be a more significant update than Snow Leopard was. Hopefully Apple will reunite Aqua or make a new UI, as Mac OS X still doesn’t have one unified interface. Garageband, iTunes, and Quicktime all have completely different interfaces, with Quicktime being rather iOS inspired, and Garageband having wood for some reason. What does wood have to do with recording music? The MacBook Air is most likely getting an update as well. I doubt that there will be two sizes as some people are rumoring, as having additional sizes would fragment the Air line. Back in the day, Steve Jobs made sure to cut Apple down to making four main computers, not 30+ like Dell or HP.
